I have gone from just thinking about it to the planning stage. My observations, I am thinking it is much easier to do it in steps....then it's not such a shock to the way of thinking, 'bigger is better'.
I am taking baby steps, I moved from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom house at the end of 2014. A much smaller house, my next step was to start downsizing all the 'stuff' I had gathered (in only 5 years of being back in Texas) where did it all come from?? And, a bigger question, where to start??
The first thing I did was take a deep breath and tell myself "You can do this!". I have to be honest, although I moved to a smaller house, I do have a storage unit, so a lot went to storage. Ok, now, a starting point.....the storage unit. My motto (when I would find a 'treasure' I had not seen in at least a year) was I haven't thought about it, looked for it, or missed it.........Sale it!! Of course I had to repeat my motto to myself A Lot!
But, as I dug through boxes and had weekend sales, it became easier. My next step was to go room to room and all those nooks and crannies, I call the 'out of sight, out of mind, don't have to dust' closets and cabinets. Come on, admit it, you have at least one place like that in your home.
It has turned into a weekend sale for about 5 weekends now. And it has actually been a 'freeing' experience (not to mention being able to pay bills while searching for a new job). I don't have all the extra 'clutter'. I spend a lot less time dusting and cleaning, More time for croppin' and craftin'!
And, yes, I have even started clearing out (selling) the extra croppin' supplies. I think I heard a *Gasp*! It's okay, selling the extras translates into buying new supplies!!
Starting out with small stuff made it easier to move on to the big stuff. "It's just me and my furbabies, I really never liked that couch anyway" mentality took over. Not enough to completely go crazy....Croppin' area? don't even think about it!! Some things and areas in my house are sacred!
My next step (will take a little longer to accomplish) is to purchase a small piece of property, preferably by the lake or in the country. Second, to purchase a wooden cabin, and finish it to my specs and liking. It will be great and I will be designing my scrapbooking area into the overall design. How big you ask......approximately 650 sq ft, one bedroom, one bath and screened in porch for me and my furbabies to enjoy. It's classified as 'Tiny Living'.
And so it has begun, downsizing! A simpler, easier life style. And what a journey it will be, electrical wiring, plumbing, counter tops, and cabinets.....Oh My! I'm sure there will be a story (or two) to share along the way.
P. S. I have also been in a cast boot the past two weeks! Not a break, just a bad sprain. This little added obstacle as slowed me down only slightly, you can get real creative in how to accomplish things! I was instructed to use crutches, keep it propped up as much as possible. Well, I tried, but my dachshund said he was to short to reach the coffee pot! So much for crutches!!
